Cheerleading squad take on world championships

Emily Ledsham-Darter, a student at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form is joining her cheerleading squad the ‘Brave AllStars’ on a 10 day trip of a life time to Orlando, Florida to compete in the World summit championships in cheerleading. The winners will receive world status in the competition, a trophy and a ring as a keepsake and Emily is hoping to go far with her twenty seven other team mates.

The competition, which hosts over 550 teams, 8,500 athletes and includes 14 countries will take place in March 2020 at the World Disneyland resort. Training for the team will be held in the ‘Top Gun’ arena with the competition taking place in the world famous ‘World arena’. Emily said she ‘cannot wait to go’ and has been working hard on the routine, putting in two eight hour days a month to train for the competition alone – this is on top of her three days a week training she already attends.

When asked about how the routine is put together Emily explained that the moves are practised and perfected and the routine is completed before the
music is made. ‘The music is then
created to the routine to make sure every element has maximum effect on the audience’.
Emily has been doing gymnastics since she was 4 years old but decided to change to cheerleading 3 years ago and said they are ‘like a family’. She hopes to continue this hobby and go on to join the adult team in the future.

‘Brave Allstars’ training studio is held in Norwich city centre and is well equipped for the incredible training which takes place. We have no doubt the team will do well in the competition – good luck to all involved!
