Core Maths

Core Maths is a level 3 maths qualification equivalent to an AS level qualification in terms of demand and carrying the same number of UCAS tariff points; it is delivered in Year 12 only. Our students study Core Maths as a compliment to their other three A levels.

It is ideal for students who choose to study A-levels involving significant mathematical content but who do not wish to study A-level Mathematics; for those students wishing to study physics without A-level maths, Core Maths is compulsory.

In term one all Core Maths students cover the fundamentals of the course including Analysis of Data, Personal Finance and Estimation.

There are two options available in term two; for those studying biology, psychology or geography we recommend mathematical modelling whilst chemists and physicists apply mathematical modelling to the solution of problems. Assessment is at the end of Year 12 and takes the form of two written papers.

Many universities have shown their support for Core Maths by offering reduced entry criteria for students who study this qualification. (AQA)
