Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form celebrates haul of Oxbridge places
We're proud to announce that nine of our students have been offered places at Cambridge and Oxford, studying a range of subjects from maths and medicine to computer science and chemistry.
This is the largest cohort of Sir Isaac Newton students to be going to Cambridge or Oxford for their undergraduate degrees, beating last year’s record.
In a year when Oxbridge Colleges have made clear there will be fewer offers this year in bid to avoid 'chaos' of 2020, Sir Isaac Newton has done particularly well, with 41% of those interviewed for places securing a firm offer.
Students securing places are as follows:

- Hannah Berry - Pembroke College, Cambridge (Medicine)
- Tom Rooke - Queens College, Cambridge (Natural Sciences, Physical)
- Conor O'Neill - Churchill College, Cambridge (Natural Sciences, Physical)
- Oscar Allen - Trinity College, Cambridge (Maths)
- Angus Murphy-Lennox - St John’s College, Cambridge (Veterinary Medicine)
- Greg Frazer - Downing College, Cambridge (Computer Science)
- Elita Tmava - St Catherine’s College, Oxford (Chemistry)
- Will Sidney-Roberts - King’s College, Cambridge (Maths)
Despite this academic year’s constant disruption and uncertainty, these pupils are now on the path to studying their subject at the very highest level thanks to their efforts and that of their teachers.
Chris Jennings, Principal of Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, said:
“Here at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, we are extremely proud of the high number of young people moving onto study STEM subjects at degree level. Securing a place at Oxbridge is the ultimate academic accolade to mark the end of your school career, and I know that each of these fine young people will go on to even greater achievements.
“2020 has been a year like no other, and so it is wonderful to be taking a moment to focus on the positive and recognise the incredible talent we have here at the Sixth Form.”
Elita Tmava, who will be taking up a place at Oxford to study chemistry said:
“I was definitely thrilled once I received my offer from Oxford. I'm looking forward to so many new things, from pursuing chemistry beyond a-level to meeting new people and having the opportunity to start new hobbies. I'm probably most excited about moving to a new city, arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I was initially contemplating a gap year however I no longer feel the need to pursue one and now am confident to move straight onto this next chapter in my education. Although the application process was demanding, the thought of applying was definitely the scariest part however with the support I received I was able to apply confidently.”
Oscar Allen, who will be reading maths at Cambridge said:
“While there was a lot to do to apply for Cambridge, by starting things like the personal statement early and signing up to any extracurricular activities that came up I found it much easier to prepare for and far less stressful than it could have been.
“Going forward I'm really excited about the chance to go to Cambridge, particularly getting to know, learn from and work with the excellent mathematicians that study and work there. Also there are so many opportunities in both employment and further research offered there post-degree which give great future options.”
Greg Frazer, taking up a place to study computer science at Cambridge said:
“The process of applying was great, I was presented with many opportunities to help my application. I had always hoped that I could get into such a prestigious university and since my application was successful I can now fulfil my long term dream. Now I just need to work hard and get the grades I need to secure myself this promising future.”
Lochlann Baker, also studying computer science at Cambridge said:
"The application process was very difficult and brought many challenges, so I’m grateful for the resources Mr. Champeney and other groups provided to help me prepare as best I can. All that’s left now is meeting the grade requirements! I’m looking forward to seeing what the various societies and supervisions at Queens’ have to offer, as well as exploring computer science in more depth."
