Inspiring women in science celebrated

16th Jul 2019 Back

The next generation of female scientists have been inspired by an event celebrating women's achievements in the STEM sector.

Students from Sir Isaac Newton joined delegates from schools across Norfolk for the Inspiring Females In STEM event at Norwich's John Innes Centre.

Year 12 student Jess Burchett reports:

"The day hosted a number of events, from open-mic panels where students had the opportunity to discuss careers with women currently working in the STEM sector, to speed mentoring, where students could interview these inspiring women in small groups.

"Many excellent women were in attendance, sharing the stories of their careers, including PhD scientists, team leaders in energy companies and science museums, and lecturers from across the UK, giving the attending girls the exciting opportunity of sampling career prospects encompassing different areas within STEM.

"It became apparent that women truly play a vital part in the driving force of science today, both in the labs and in business, and the once small proportion of women in the STEM industries is growing."
